Fashion Schools

Fashionista.com recently ranked the top 20 Fashion Schools in America. I personally am not/will not go to fashion school. Besides the fact that my mother would disown me if I ever went to anything besides a 4 year college, I feel like it doesn't help much, to get into the industry or for knowledge. That is just my opinion, and I am not hating on you if you go/want to go to fashion school.

8.) DREXEL UNIVERSITY* (Philadelphia, PA)

  2. @amour darling Okay so technically, there is no difference between a 4-year college and a fashion school because both you go to school for 4 years. But, what I meant by 4 year college is to go to an actual college and have an actual 'legit' major like pre-law or business. Fashion school will only help you if you are going to work in fashion and no-one can predict that you are going to be able to get a major at the very few magazines. Getting an actual degree give you a fallback option.

  3. I think you're right. If you want to work in the fashion industry, you don't necessarily have to go to a fashion school. You can still work in merchandising or for a magazine, if you studied business administration or something like that, but those degrees also give you the opportunity to do something else if you'd want to.
I do think though that everybody who wants to get into the industry as a designer should seriously consider to go to school for that just to learn about the practical side of everything, but I think even in that case it'd be helpful to learn about the business side of things.

  4. @Melaine If you want to go into the industry as a designer it might me better to go to a fashion school but you can also go to a normal school and take a few class from fashion schools. Most girls/guys that have programs for people that want to go into fashion. Like Kate Middleton, when she was at St. Andrews she majored in Art History. If you major in art history you could also work as an art buyer or at an art gallery. There are many options out there all you have to do is look into it.
