Fashion Interview: Déborah from Nice People of Barcelona

What is your name, age, general location, and blog?
My name is Déborah. I'm 22. From Barcelona. blog Nice People Barcelona (http://
nicepeoplebarcelona.com)

How would you describe your style and do you believe that you demonstrate it through your
blog?
My style is vintage, 50s, rockabilly, 40s, 60s, essentially. i like mixing a lot, though, but I
always try to give it the 50s touch. I'm very perfectionist and this is something I try to reflect on
my blog, that's why I spend so many hours when I elaborate a new post!

Why did you start your blog?
I started my blog because I realized that I had a lot of friends with special talents or interesting
things for the world to know. I thought that making a page to talk about them would help them
become more known and would help me to practice on some kind of journalism. Now it's
become more like a magazine. I still include the interviews of course, but especially there are
reports about events, fashion, and stuff.

Have you had many opportunities since you started you blog, for example with advertisers and
sponsors?
Well! Not a lot, but I collaborated with Lacoste on their campaign Lacoste L!VE for two
months and since it's a very important brand I'm very happy about that. What I hope now is to
have more opportunities on 2012.

Do you connect with your readers? If yes, by what means?
Yes I connect with them and more everyday. It's very difficult when you start a blog that
people participates a lot. I'm studying for being a Community Manager and I read that a
specialist on social networks said once that for one comment on a site, 100 people have seen
the page. So this means that maybe a lot of people have seen your site but very few take the
time to comment. And that is something I really appreciate. When I made the Red Hot Chili
Peppers concert post I had a lot of comments of people that had never visited my blog. And
also a lot of sites used my pictures. That really made me happy. When someone takes the time
to read your words, not just see the pictures and to comment what they think about your work,
they deserve the most special "thank you". This is what makes you keep on working. Because
if you write and haver no answer at all… sometimes it's a bit desperating!!

Besides blogging, do you have any hobbies?
Sure! I love fashion and music! They're my two passions in life. I enjoy going to rockabilly
festivals, concerts and stuff. I love my city and my people and just taking a walk in Barcelona
with my friends or boyfriend makes me feel good. I have fun going shopping without buying
too! I know a lot of amazing stores in my city.

What does it take, in your opinion; do create a good and quality blog post?
In my opinion a good blog needs to have own material. I mean that I appreciate a lot when
people takes time to go to places and take pictures and write what it was like. And I say this
because I see a lot of blogs that only copy news they've seen in other sites and I don't see much
effort on that. I think the charm of a blog is that it is on first person, and the cool thing is to see
what things through the eyes and the words of the blogger.

If you could live in any city in the world, What city would it be and why?
I would love to live to in NY. I don't know if it's like they show in the movies. But I'm
probably traveling there on summer and then I'll see it. My life is in Barcelona right now. But I
want to travel a lot, especially I want to know the USA. I also liked London a lot when I went
there some years ago. I said I wanted to live there. But well, you never know… I'll see where I
am in a couple of years!!

How much time, on average, do you spend on your blog per day?
I think I spend one hour per day on Facebook, checking stats, comments, etc. The hard work
though is when you attend to and event with the camera, take pictures, upload them to your
computer, retouch them, write the text, etc. When I do this I can spend like 8 hours in front of
the computer. For one only post, yes!! And also for interviews, you have to meet the person,
do the interview and then turn it into a cool post! That takes a long time too… but the result is
very cool so the time worths it.

What do you think is the “best” blog design?
I don't know if it's the best but what I know is that the more minimalist a site is, the more the
people like it. I would never bet right now to make a website with black background, for
example. With a clear, relaxed and easy design, you are winning a big part of the game.

What celebrity would you say has the best style?
I'm not a big fan of celebrities, actually. But Dita Von Teese is just amazing and enviable in her
looks and her style.

Do you have a favorite blog? If so, what is it?
I don't have much time to era blogs because I work, I study, I make my blog and sometimes I
make tattoos too. But I like some streetsyle blogs. Jack and Jil are amazing photographers and
they take you to amazing places with their pictures. I have a blogroll on my blog and a lot os
subscriptions to other blogs so some days I take a look to a lot of them for hours! I also love
lamono magazine. It's a mag from Barcelona and they have really cool stories and reports in it.
It's very important to see the work the others are doing.

What would you say is your favorite fashion book?
I bought a really cool book about fashion in the fifties with a lot of advertisings and real
drawings of the fifties, but painfully it's in Japanese. If I knew the language it would be
awesome! LOL. I love a lot of book and I think all of them have something special and teach
you something new
.
Do you spend the time to use proper grammar on you blog?
Sure! I don't upload until the text is perfectly written. I think that if you want to be taken
seriously you have to write seriously. And the words you write are there all the time. You
never know who is going to read it so yo need to take care of write correctly.

What show you say has the best fashion?
I don't watch a lot of TV. I prefer to watch series and movies. On Mad Men they did an
amazing job, as well as on costume design as on atrezzo and stuff. The best of all is that you
can see the fashion of the late fifties - late sixties but in a lot points of view. The rich
housewife, the secretary, the kids, etc.
I also love Sex and the City… In fact, I love everything about it.

Are you honest in your blog posts?
Always. I always write what I think and feel. Lies don't go with me. I'm not rich, I'm not a
model. I don't invent my life. I'm a normal girl who works and studies and lives on her own
and I'm always very honest. I have nothing to hide.

Who would you say is your favorite designer?
I love Miuccia Prada, Marc Jacobs and John Galliano. In my opinion, they do or did different
things with exquisite taste.

If you could have one signature piece, what would it be?
Well, in fact I already have it. My boyfriend bought me a pair of glitter Miu Miu shoes for
Christmas and I'm really excited.

Do you have a favorite quote, if so what is it?
Mmmm, maybe "whatever..". It always fits… hahaha

What is one message you are trying to convey through your blog?
I always try to show a responsible face about everything. I think that good jobs has its reward
some day. I try to do things to entertain the readers and taking a lot of care on each and every
detail so they enjoy it. I always say thanks for reading and offer a warm welcome. I also try to
do some jokes because that's part of my personality. I like being sarcastic because life is
something serious but in the end you have to take it easy and with a great sense of humor.

XOXO
Anna
